Website terms of use
These terms apply when you use our website. By using it, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the website.
These are our website terms of use. They're not our client terms of business, which apply if you instruct us to act for you.

- try to get unauthorised access to the website or the systems behind it

Information on our website isn't legal advice
Our website, including our guides, FAQs, prices, and free tools, gives general information. It isn't legal advice, and it may not fit your circumstances. The law and Home Office rules change often, and a page may not reflect the latest changes.
Please don't act, or decide not to act, based only on information on our website. Get advice about your own situation.
Our free tools
Our divorce cost estimator, ILR date checker, and sponsor compliance checklist give estimates and general guidance. Their results depend on the answers you give, and they can't take account of everything about your situation. Please check with a solicitor before you rely on them, especially before you make an application.
When we become your solicitors
Using our website, sending an enquiry, or booking an appointment doesn't make us your solicitors.
We only act for you once we've confirmed in writing that we can. Before we do, we need to carry out checks, including a check for conflicts of interest. Until then, please only send us the information we need to understand your enquiry.
Some legal matters have strict time limits, such as deadlines for applications and appeals. Until we've confirmed that we can act for you, we're not taking any steps to protect your position. If a deadline is coming up, please tell us when you get in touch, or call us on 01727 568353.
Our free 15-minute call
Our free 15-minute call is with a member of our team. We use it to understand what you need and explain how we can help. The call isn't legal advice.
Paid solicitor consultations
If you'd like advice from a solicitor, you can book a paid consultation.
| Consultation | Length |
|---|---|
| Immigration | 30 minutes |
| Family and finance | 60 minutes |
- The fee is the price shown when you book, plus VAT.
- You pay in advance, by card, through Stripe Checkout. We don't see or store your full card details.
- If you instruct us after your consultation, we'll credit the consultation fee against our fees.
The credit applies if you instruct us on the same matter within 3 months of your consultation.
Prices
Prices on our website don't include VAT, which is added at the current rate. They also don't include court fees, Home Office fees, or the Immigration Health Surcharge, where these apply.
If you instruct us, we'll confirm our fees in writing.
Cancellation and refunds
If you're a consumer and you book a paid consultation online or by phone, you usually have the right to cancel within 14 days. This right comes from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
If you ask us to provide a service within those 14 days, you may have to pay for any part of it already provided when you cancel. You lose the right to cancel once the service has been fully provided.
You can rearrange or cancel a paid consultation free of charge up to 24 hours before it starts, and we'll refund your fee in full if you cancel. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice or don't attend, we won't refund the fee, but we'll offer you one new time. If we have to cancel, we'll refund you in full or rebook you, whichever you prefer.
To cancel, email us at info@sonylaw.com or call us on 01727 568353.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Our client terms of business
If you instruct us, our client terms of business will apply to the legal work we do for you. If they differ from these website terms, our client terms of business take priority.

Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that can't be limited or excluded by law. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we're not liable for:
- any loss caused by relying on general information on our website, or on the results of our free tools
- any loss or damage caused by a virus or other harmful material that we couldn't reasonably have prevented
- if you use our website for business purposes, any loss of profit, business, or opportunity

Changes to these terms

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute about them. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
