- You want to leave money to children or grandchildren but not until they're older.
- You have a family member who is vulnerable or receives benefits, and you want to provide for them safely.
- You're thinking about inheritance tax, or protecting assets for children from a previous relationship.
How it works
Step 1: Understand your goals
We talk through your family, your assets, and what you want the trust to achieve.
Step 2: Recommend the right trust
We explain the options, including the tax position, and agree a fixed fee for the work in writing.
Step 3: Draft and set up the trust
A solicitor drafts the trust deed or the trust in your will, and guides you and the trustees through signing.
Step 4: Register and look after it
Most trusts must be registered with HMRC's Trust Registration Service. We can register it and advise the trustees on their duties.
Trusts for vulnerable family members
If someone you want to provide for receives means-tested benefits or isn't able to manage money, a trust can provide for them without affecting their benefits or putting them at risk.

Frequently asked questions
What is a trust?
A legal arrangement where trustees look after money or property for the benefit of other people, the beneficiaries, following rules you set.
Can a trust be part of my will?
Yes. A will trust only starts after your death. It's a common way to protect money for young children or a vulnerable family member.
Do trusts save inheritance tax?
Some can help with inheritance tax planning, but the rules are complex and some trusts have their own tax charges. We'll explain the position for your circumstances.
Who should be a trustee?
People you trust to manage money carefully and fairly, often family members, sometimes alongside a professional.
Does every trust need to be registered?
Most express trusts must be registered with HMRC's Trust Registration Service, even if no tax is due. We'll tell you if yours needs registering.
